Sources say former first daughter Malia Obama is rejecting modeling offers because she doesn’t want to be “famous like her Dad.”

“Malia has a model body that would be great for runways,” a source reportedly said of the style icon to Naughty Gossip, a celebrity blog. “She has been offered several opportunities to model but turned them all down.”

Instead, the 18-year-old — who is heading to Harvard University in the fall — aspires to work in the movie industry, working in production “behind the camera, not in front of it,” reports the Daily Mail.

“She has zero interest of being famous like her dad,” said the source.

In some ways, Malia’s reluctance to join the modeling industry — often criticized for the beauty standards it imposes, particularly on minorities — is not a surprise given her upbringing.

“Michelle and I are always guarding against that,” former President Barack Obama once said while talking about what he considers oppressive beauty standards, Hello magazine reports.

As a result, it’s a topic Malia has strong opinions about.

“I mean Malia’ll talk about black girls’ hair and will have much opinions of that,” her father continued. “And she’s pretty opinionated about the fact that it costs a lot, it takes a long time, that sometimes girls can be just as tough on each other about how they’re supposed to look.”

The rumors sparked debate on social media.

Many commended Malia for declining the modeling offers.

“There are much bigger, and greater opportunities ahead for this young queen!” wrote one social media user on Inquisitr’s Facebook post about the offers. “Get your education, and listen to mom and dad! They are the ones that love you, and the ones that have your back! Let the world see your inner beauty! Don’t let them put you in a glass bottle! That’s when you lose control of who you are and who you want to become!”

Others did not respond as positively to the rumors.

“Model??” wrote one woman. “She doesn’t look like a model and I think its an insult to say she has the body of one..they are nothing more than walking hangers.”

In response, many tried to defend Malia.

“Her mother and father are the worst thing to happen to America in history,” said one commenter. “But she is only a child and don’t deserve to be ridiculed. I wish her the best of luck in any career she chooses.”
